In this in-depth masterclass, Nicolas Becker will take participants behind the scenes of his creative process — from field recording and Foley to acoustic experimentation and immersive soundscapes. He will explore how sound shapes emotion, narrative, and audience perception.
Becker has collaborated with some of the world’s most renowned and ambitious filmmakers, including Denis Villeneuve, Alfonso Cuarón, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Alejandro González Iñárritu, to mention a few, bringing a singular sensitivity and inventiveness to each project.
The session will also highlight his recent work on Viktor, directed by Olivier Sarbil — an extraordinary documentary that uses innovative techniques such as contact microphones and body sound recordings to convey the internal sonic world of a deaf protagonist. Becker will discuss how these methods were developed to give audiences a deeply subjective and visceral listening experience.
The Masterclass is followed by a screening of Viktor, also concluded with an audience Q&A session with Nicolas Becker.
Whether you're a filmmaker, sound artist, or simply a cinephile, this masterclass offers a unique chance to rethink how you hear stories on screen.
