Teheran and Bucharest are merged together in a deep dive into history and events that keep echoing its relevance. Turnaround events show the delicacy and strength of friendship, the power of many, and the fragility and impact on the individual. Chronicling the struggles of two women fighting for a voice as the fall of the Shah in Iran and the overthrow of Ceausescu in Romania hit their respective homelands. Still, they cling to their relationship, despite the distance and obstacles. With fascinating never-before-seen archive material from Iran and Romania, Vlad Petri imaginatively explores friendship as a vehicle to see similarities in culture and people, but also incidents that move a whole society out of balance. BETWEEN REVOLUTIONS is an emotional time machine and a poem that brings the humane side of the grand canvas of global upheaval to the foreground.

«I started working on this film more than three years ago, after reading a study about the foreign students living in Romania during the communist period. I was mostly interested in the people who came from the Middle East to study in a closed country like Romania at the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s. During those years, Romania had a policy of openness towards countries that were part of the non-aligned movement, encouraging the enrollment of foreign students in exchange for economic and infrastructure projects that involved Romanian workers and engineers»
