Poetry Cinema

Director and designer Kristian Pedersen, known for his striking fusion of literature, poetry and visual art, will present his own work through a retrospective of shorts and a poetry animation mini-masterclass

Kristian, director at Mikrofilm animation studio, is known for his visual and graphic play with shape, sound and typography, exploring how text, poetry and feeling can translate to a visual language. In collaboration with editor and publisher Audun Lindholm, he created the acclaimed poetry film series Gasspedal Animert — a unique meeting point between literature and animated graphics.

Across his body of work, Pedersen has developed a distinctive visual signature and narrative style, with films screened at international festivals for film, animation, literature and poetry. The visual music short The Boyg (Mikrofilm, 2016) toured film studios in Los Angeles with the Animation Show of Shows, the abstract nuclear short Little Boy (Mikrofilm, 2018) premiered at Hiroshima Intl. Animation Festival, and the poetry film The Pipes (Gasspedal, 2014) was awarded the Goethe Institute film prize at the Zebra Poetry Film Festival in Berlin.

He has also created awardwinning title sequences and graphics for documentaries. Pedersen’s latest work, Goddammit (Mikrofilm, 2025), continues his exploration of poetic form through animation.

This talk details process and behind-the-scenes material for a selection of shorts, including Goddammit, Little Boy and The Pipes.
